Raven Studios    Training Swords -  European (Medieval / Renaissance) Wasters   Raven Studios training swords are designed to withstand the rigors of free-sparring. I feel it is important that each waster mimic a real swords performance and feel as closely as possible, therefore hardwood wasters are constructed with the following qualities: Patterned after real swords. The blades are made from Hickory. Information about hardwood  The blades (unless otherwise noted) have a diamond shaped cross section for strength and performance, and the edges are rounded for durability. (see drawing below) The blades are made with a distal and profile taper to help maintain proper balance and feel. The blades are made with a ricasso for added strength and balance. The guards are locked into the blades and can not slide or loosen. The blades have a full tang and the handles are constructed with laminated hardwood slabs. The handle is oval shaped for maximum comfort and control of the sword. The hilt is made from your choice of Jatoba, Purple Heart, or Hickory. Finished with a linseed and tung oil blend which penetrates into the wood to create a tough and durable surface. (No fantasy or cartoon sword requests please. R.S. wasters are not toys, they are designed for serious martial arts training.) Creating a custom training sword may take a bit more time, and depending on the amount and difficulty of the modifications, the cost is generally between 10% to 100% over the base prices seen below.
